Still Alive

Just haven't had the urge to post much. I've been putting a lot of energy into keeping two elderly cats functioning. Also been putting a lot of time into my online classes. Not taking classes this summer tho - I need to uncomplicate my life for a few months.

I'll get back into posting more regularly by the end of the month. I am thinking about what I want to do with this journal. I also have an account on Wordpress where I was going to import this journal if LJ looked as if it were going to go belly up but that seems not to be the case at present. So I need to decide if I am going to use that account or kill it.

Decisions, decisions

Other options for blogging

I managed to delete my Loud Twitter account, thank goodness. Some of my Tweets did not translate well into LJ posts and it became really annoying rather quickly.

While looking at my LJ account settings today I noticed that public posts can be automatically shipped to Facebook if I choose. I activated this option and I'll let it go for a while and see whether it is worth it. Not everyone with whom I am friends are on Live Journal, though there is some overlap.

Also, I am looking at migrating to Wordpress. There has been some major changes in ownership of LJ, and from what I have read the support staff has been downsized. If nothing else, I don't want to lose my archives. I will let friends know ahead of time if I do make the move.

Today is going to be an awesome time to be outdoors. I have some errands to run and some yard work to do before everyone comes over for Beltane practice tomorrow. I am sooooooo glad to see the sunshine and warm weather! :-)

Update - can't figure out if Facebook posted this or not.

Peeved

This morning I got a call from the company that issued one of my credit cards. It started off with an automated message informing me that a charge that was made on my card today was refused. Then I was told the details of the charge and given the chance to confirm it by pressing one number or denying it by pressing another. I didn't recognize the charge (I only use the card sparingly - Amazon and an occasional IRL charge) so I denied it.

After that I got to talk to a real person who told me of 3 other charges that were denied. I had not made any of these charges. Someone had stolen my credit card number and made fraudulent charges. I have only used the card once IRL and that was at a shoe store yesterday.

The account has been closed and I am suppose to get a new card and a list of the denied charges. I wonder if someone at the shoe store stole my number?

This whole this is very upsetting.

Tea Party

Kris is down at the Tea Party Rally at Courthouse Square. He says there are lots of people there. I told him to be careful about baiting people.

He just called again. He says except for the parents who brought young children he thinks he is the youngest person there. He says that he doesn't think he will stay too long. It's too much work to bait people. I asked "Too many talking points?" He said "No, too much work to get any thoughts out of them."

There is some entertainment going on at the moment (quarter til 6pm) - country music. I told Kris not to expect anything else as country music tends to be the standard at these sort of rallies.

Update @ 6:50 pm Kris is on the way home. He has about 20 minutes of commentary on the Flip camera. He would have filled up the whole 30 minutes but the batteries ran out. He tried to get some of the more interesting signs and people.

He says that he saw a few people around his age but mostly the crowd was middle aged and older. He estimates that there were between 200 and 300 people there. He tried to listen to the speakers but it was hard to make out what they were saying.

I'm looking forward to seeing his commentary. If the Flip clips are good enough I may post them to YouTube.

Update Thursday am: The local news says that there were thousands of people at the Tea Bag event at Courthouse Square. Organizers say 5,000. I don't think that many could fit into the area, and Kris' video seems to indicate a much smaller crowd. Haven't seen any police crowd estimates, though the Dayton Daily News says a vague "several thousand strong." Admittedly, Kris left around 6:30 so it most likely got a bit bigger after he came home.

Not going to post his video clips. While some of his comments are interesting, the vid itself might induce motion sickness. He needs to learn how to use a video camera. :-)

Online classes

I am really going to have to make a decision about continuing my online seminary after these classes are over. At the moment I have my nose above water in my Religion and the Law class. In the NonProfit class, however, I am underwater and holding up my finger for the third time. I tried to work the assignments as they related to the work we were doing in DPA toward forming a workable nonprofit and I'm failing miserably. I'm trying to decouple the "real world" organization from the hypothetical for class purposes and it just ain't working.

I find I am avoiding trying to catch up on the assignments, a good indication that I don't know what to do and am not sure I want to continue working on the whole thing anymore. I need to do this, but it's hard to gin up the enthusiasm.

I also think that I don't do well with online classes. It appears that I may need the physical classroom to goad me into getting off my lazy and getting the work done.

Another question I need to answer is whether I will do actually do any pagan ministry after all these wonderful (expensive) classes. Do we have a community in Dayton that really needs clergy services? Or did I create a lovely cloud castle in my mind and try to fit the real world into it.

I don't know. It's late and I need to wind down so I can actually sleep tonight.

Birthday Dream

Wanted to jot this down before I forgot it.

Yesterday morning Tom got up with Kyle and let me sleep in a bit (well, it was my birthday ;->) Anyway, I was in the light state between waking up and going back down into a deeper sleep when I had a dream. I dreamed I had just picked up my mother from somewhere (not sure if it was from a bus station or an airport) . We were driving through a large town or a small city. The roads were a bit twisty and I kept taking left hand turns. I was telling her that we were going to trade in my current car for a smaller, greener one. We were trying to get back to my house but I kept driving farther into this town instead. About that time one of the cats on the bed decided to give me a nose kiss and woke me up.

Thinking about the dream today, I realized that my mother was not the same as she had been the last few years before she passed. She was a lot younger. She looked the way I remembered her from my college years and when I was married to Jesse - in her mid to late 50s.

I turned 55 yesterday. I wonder if there is some sort of connection?

Rooooaaaad Trip!

Heading out this morning for breakfast with Winter and then driving to Hueston Woods State Park and Caesar's Creek State Park to see which one we want to use for our DPA Camp Out in July.

Susan, Tina, Winter and I all in my Accord for over 3 hours. Should be interesting. I need to make sure I have some traveling music cued up in the iPod.

It was an interesting idea, but...

We are going to have to drop the idea of getting a house for Jesse and the baby. And Kris. The ones that we could buy outright need a lot of work to make them habitable, and we are not in the position to take on another house loan.

Jesse has a job but his credit stinks. Kris has excellent credit but he lost his job the end of January and has not been able to find another one yet. He is getting unemployment, but while that will help him pay the bills for now that won't do much toward impressing a loan officer.

When/if their father's house sells they will have some money to work with. Not sure how much, though. The house needs some work, so they won't be able to get as much as they would like out of it.

I have taxes to work on today. I have most of it done, just need to finalize things. I also need to check with the bank and find out when my next appointment with the financial manager is scheduled. I plan to put another $2000 into my IRA, which will help with the taxes this year.

After tax season is over I need to pester my older brother and find out if there is any distribution left to make from my mother's estate. The last I heard he was holding a bit over to cover incidentals and any taxes on the estate, but he hasn't reported back to the rest of us on the final disposition of the estate. Thank goodness she didn't have a house to worry about.
